For those of you who haven't heard, talc, which is the main ingredient in most powders, is a significant irritant to the nose and lungs of both children and adults. Babies and children put everything in their mouths, and can get large amounts in their lungs.
The lungs recognise that this substance doesn't belong there and gear up all defences to clear these foreign particles away. Because the talc causes an inflammatory reaction in the lungs, severe pneumonia is well documented in medical literature.
Unfortunately, this reaction can last months, and in some people years. Children who have this type of reaction to inhaling baby powder may be treated much like a child with asthma.
Paediatricians have recommended against the use of any talcum powder because of this very risk. The reason we apply something to a baby's bottom when changing the nappy is to reduce friction between the baby's sensitive skin and a potentially wet or soiled nappy. To avoid having to use talcum powder why not use Neways Barrier Cream which will work in exactly the same way, creating a protective film, but not allowing the pores to clog.
If talcum powder is so bad, perhaps so are many of the other products being used! To find out more click here.
Neways can offer you a guaranteed safe alternative in the products they produce, some of which are listed below.
